Information on data protection

Dear Sir, dear Madame, you are about to send us a request.

since May 25th 2018 the transitional period for General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which has already come into force in 2016 in all countries of the EU has expired. This regulation protects fundamental rights and freedoms of natural persons and in particular their right to the protection of personal data. A major aim of the new regulation is to harmonize the standard of data protection in all countries of the EU. All companies and organisations who store data of natural persons have the duty to inform these individuals about a number of issues and in particular about their rights.According to § 13 GDPR, Chimaira BuchhandelsGmbH (also referred to as the “controller”) shall inform you as follows.

You either are already among our customers or, by sending us a request, you are considering to become one. If you are not yet a customer of Chimaira, you can skip A) and continue with reading B).

A) If you have purchased books from us in the past, the right to store your data is derived from an existing contract according to § 6 b (GDPR). According to § 6 f (GDPR), we have your consent to also provide our catalogues by postal service. Of course, you always have the right to express your will and object to this as soon as you don’t want to receive them any longer. This right and a number of other rights are listed below.

What are the categories of data we do store? To fulfil any order, we need to store the customer’s address and possibly a phone number and/or e-mail address. If you have supplied payment details such as credit card numbers etc., we can assure you that we handle this data with utmost care and in acccordance the technical standard available. This goes both for the technical security of our online shop and for the risks of data loss due to burglary, fire or water damage. In case of a data failure, independent from the question "who is responsible" we are obliged to inform you if we see any risk that your data (especially payment details) may be abused or that any other risk may arise for you. We are also obliged to report a severe data failure to the supervisory authority. We do provide our customer's data to a service agency in order to spread our catalogue. In this single case in which we provide your personal data to a third party, we do have a contract in which our partner commits himself to take care of the data he is provided with. We do not provide any data to anybody in a foreign country. The server where our data is hosted is located within the EU. Envisaged period for which the personal data will be stored: By German law all invoices must be kept for a period of 10 years. Thus, your data will be stored 10 years after we have processed the last invoice for a purchase.

B) In case have never purchased anything from us yet, we are happy to deal with your request (e.g. search for a certain title that is out of print) and do our best to help you find what you are looking for. If we are unable to offer the requested item, it might come to the point that you decide not to place an order. In this case it is our duty to delete your personal data after a period that is muchg shorter than the above-mentioned ten years. We would keep your data as long as it is required to deal with your request, but as a rule, the maximum duration would not exceed one year.

Here we list the rights all data subjects have:
the right to request from the controller:

  • information, which data exactly has been stored;
  • rectification or erasure of personal data or restriction of processing of personal data concerning the data subject to object to such processing;
  • data protability;
