"The present book is the most updated comprehensive handbook that has been published in Iran so far with a focus on Iranian amphibians. It contains detailed information about their eggs, larvae, and adult amphibians, along with a description of their morphological features, nutrition, breeding as well as information about their natural habitats, ecoregions, national and global distribution range. The book is divided into 12 chapters, and also includes a comprehensive listing of taxonomy, all primary synonyms, the scientific names, common English names, and the standard Persian names of all taxa along with the etymology of their names. In this scientific source, 22 species of amphibians in 13 genera belonging to 7 families have been included, taking advantage of 450 colorful images of Iranian amphibians and their specific habitats. In addition, more than 2200 locality points have been provided, in which amphibians are distributed and this has been done seeking assistance from maps showing the geographic detailed distribution patterns of these species, also a detailed bibliography with 800 references have been given. There is a thorough description of some aspects, including background studies on Iranian amphibians ever since the eighteenth century, their biogeography including the ecoregions of Iran. In addition, the amphibians’ habitats, methods of studying various species, their morphological diversity including their shape, their teeth, limbs, visual organs and the diversity of vocal sacs are included. Some other topics, like the ecology of amphibians, which consists of interplays as well as intraspecific and interspecific competitions, defense mechanisms, and survival strategies of the various species along with ethical necessities regarding the study of the amphibians with accentuation on Iranian creatures have also been elaborated in the present book.
